  • Vegetable Garden Pavilion

An eco garden building, adaptable to any environment by using local materials. To be enjoyed as a garden room, for the preparation of homegrown vegetables and for dining.

We created a simple timber and dry stone wall pavilion with a tiled wooden floor, traditionally used in summerhouses. Glass panels were installed under the roof to allow natural light and solar warmth in, giving the allusion of a floating ceiling. A wild meadow green roof provides insulation and is a haven for wildlife. Run-off rainwater is collected and stored in barrels for watering the garden. The wooden beams, reclaimed from barns on the estate, are hand inscribed by master carvers with names of seasonal vegetables. A handsome fireplace made from extra strong grade Cotswold stone is built into the structure of the wall alongside the pavilion, allowing it to be enjoyed well beyond dusk into the night.

    AWARD:
Winner of the SILVER GUILT MEDAL, CHELSEA FLOWER SHOW, LONDON. 2008.

Re-assembled on the Daylesford estate and now used as a Soil association education centre for local residents.
